ANGEL PETKOV
Born in 1989.
Angel Petkov is a student at the National Academy of Arts in Sofia, specializing in Sculpture. His passion for sculpture went through several metamorphoses until he enrolled at the National High School for Fine Arts “Ilia Petrov” and first explored metal.
It is metal that he prefers to mold best in his work today.
“I like finding cast-away, worthless pieces of metal and giving them a second-coming, so to say. It only happens rarely, but when the twisting and bending of the material is not pre-meditated, when a finished sculpture actually surprises me, that’s the greatest satisfaction I get from my work.”
Raw, edgy, and teasing – Angel’s art engages instantly. From everyday appliances and scrap to wooden plates and plastic, almost all elements of city life are present in Angel’s beautifully sculpted creations – yet his pieces are far from the ultra-modern urban craft, while much closer to a romantic escape from the ordinary.
